We need a variety of help, from overall organization to event-day help. Take a look at our Roles below and consider helping us by Contacting Us to learn more.

Roles

Below are just a few of the roles needed to make Thunder Run successful. Each of these roles can have the support of multiple people to make the task manageable:

  • Thunder Run Lead: Ross Comer (open to adding a co-lead)
  • Marketing Lead: Manage this website, develop strategies to promote Thunder Run, coordinate with other VPs to help with their efforts (finding pilots, etc)
  • Airport Organization Lead: Coordinate with DART leads at all airports to ensure coverage at each airport
  • Donation Lead: Work with organizations who can donate foods and goods and identify recipients for those items. Works with Airport VP to coordinate transportation and delivery of goods to the airports.
  • Pilot Coordination Lead: Manage pilot communication and coordination. Work with Marketing VP to identify new pilots.
  • Communication Lead: Owns emergency communication during the event, creating a communication plan (HAM radios, backup communication mechanisms such as pilot-sent comms, etc) for the event. Identifies and recruits HAM radio operators for the airports
  • Airport (DART) Leads: Be the point-of-contact at an airport, working with airport staff (airport managers, controllers, FBOs) and event staff (Ground Crew, Pilots, HAM radio operators) before and during the event.
  • Pilots: Fly during the event
  • Ground Crew: Help support the event in the days leading up to the event and during the event in moving goods, loading planes, marshalling planes, etc.

All participants are encouraged to participate throughout the year, giving feedback before and after the event to make the event as effective as possible.
